France beach pictures

by gaj @ 3:09 pm

This is the destination beach for sunbathers and swimmers in L’Houmeau (although this picture was taken in March).  Below that, you can get a good look at the beach cobbles.  There are sandier beaches south of La Rochelle.

Below the rocks, there are mudflats.  Really sticky mud that you can sink into easily.  When the people from the University study the mudflats, they actually ride hovercraft-type things out onto the mudflats so that no scientists are sacrificed just to obtain samples.

Across the water from L’Houmeau/La Rochelle is Ile de Re, a popular beach destination for the French.  You can reach it via a LONG bridge, or by boat.  So here are some tourist shots for ya:

  2. Galen,

It has been a while since you’ve connected to me so I checked the blog. Love the way you write!!

I am hoping you actually are in as good spirits as you come across and hope you will stay in touch when your deadline is done. Germans may be known for their work ethic but they have strict beliefs in time off too. Hope your June excursions will take in Denmark?, Holland? Have wonderful summer.

    Love,

    Willi
